Montessori, A Modern Approach
Paula Polk Lillard

This book highlights the obvious differences between Montessori preschool education and a more traditional approach. In my opinion, it is the best introduction to Montessori philosophy for parents or teachers.

Montessori and Your Child
Terry Malloy

This book was written for parents and describes a typical classroom and highlights with text and pictures some of the basic Montessori materials.

The Hidden Hinge
Rosa Packard

In my opinion, this is the best biography available today on Maria Montessori.

The Montessori Way
Tim Seldin & Paul Epstein Ph.D.

Just released, this book offers an in-depth look at Montessori education. It addresses the history of the Montessori movement, the philosophy behind the movement, as well as a guided tour of typical classrooms. It is a very complete source of information for parents, teachers and administrators.

The book is available from The Montessori Foundation

Read aloud books for Kindergarden age children:

Mr. Popper's Penguins
Richard Atwater
Charlotte's Web
E.B. White
My Father's Dragon
Ruth Stiles Gannett
The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane
Kate Dicamillo

I fell in love with this book the moment I saw the cover. I haven’t been this excited about a new children’s book in a long time. It is a classic in the making. (by the author of Because of Win-Dixie)

Edward Tulane is a china rabbit who lives a very posh life until the day he becomes “lost”. He travels from the lap of luxury to some unsuitable but very lovable places and learns a thing or two along the way about values. This is a delightful “please don’t stop reading” book that every child and the adults that read to them will love. Let me know what you think of it.
